From Coop to Community 2026

A Hand Up Ministries, Inc. Initiative-Raising Hope, One Chicken at a Time

Hand Up Ministries, Inc. launches a faith-based sustainability program that combines practical work with spiritual growth. The 'From Coop to Community' initiative empowers residents — many of whom are rebuilding their lives after incarceration — to raise chickens and provide fresh eggs and poultry to Oklahoma City’s community and local restaurants.

The program currently cares for over 400 laying hens and 200 broiler chickens. Residents learn animal care, business operations, and community responsibility, while helping Hand Up Ministries achieve its mission to restore lives through faith, work, and compassion.

How to Support

Your donations help us expand coops, improve feeding systems, install hatching lights, and prepare warm shelters for the winter season.

[Insert Image Placeholder: New Chicken Coop Construction]

“This project is about more than raising chickens — “ it’s about raising hope,” said David Nichols, President of Hand Up Ministries.

Program Overview

The 'From Coop to Community' program is a faith-driven sustainability effort designed to provide meaningful employment, skill-building, and community contribution opportunities for Hand Up Ministries’ residents. Through the operation of small-scale poultry production, residents raise both laying hens and broiler chickens, producing eggs and meat that support the ministry and local businesses.

Program Needs and Donation Goals

Hand Up Ministries seeks to expand its facilities with upgraded chicken coops, new feed storage areas, improved hatching lights, and winterized shelters. The estimated funding goals for 2025 are as follows:

$15,000 – Construction of additional large coops
$5,000 – Heating and lighting equipment for winter
$3,000 – Feed and veterinary care for expanded                           flocks
$2,500 – Educational and work training materials

Community Impact

The program currently provides more than 100 dozen eggs weekly to a local Asian restaurants and Hand Up Ministries residents. These efforts foster strong community relationships while promoting self-sufficiency and faith-based reintegration.

Resident Impact Story

Each resident who joins 'From Coop to Community' contributes to the production and delivery process, gaining valuable employment experience and renewed confidence. Many have shared how the program restored their sense of dignity and purpose.

HOPE ON SOLID GROUND/MULTI-PURPOSE FACILITY

HAND UP MINISTRIES, INC. MULTI-PURPOSE/ADMINISTRATION OFFICES BUILDING

PROJECT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN PROPOSAL

Chapel Floor Plan.jpg

MISSION FIRST

Hand Up Ministries is on the front lines of second chances. Every week, we welcome formerly incarcerated individuals—men who might otherwise be homeless—and offer them shelter, guidance, support, and above all, hope. Over 400 residents call our two campuses home, where they find stability, structure, and spiritual renewal.

But we need your help.

A PLACE TO WORSHIP, GROW, AND LEAD

We are launching a campaign to build a new 7,500 sq. ft. Multi-Purpose Bldg./ worship hall and administrative building on land we already own. This multi-use facility will serve as:

  • A chapel where residents can worship, heal, and build faith

  • A hub for counseling, case management, and support services

  • A multi-purpose building from a worship hall to Basketball court to special events

  • An anchor of accountability and growth for our entire community

This is more than a building. It’s a catalyst for transformation.

PROJECT DETAILS

Facility Features:

  • 7,500 sq. ft. concrete construction

  • 10 offices for staff and case managers

  • Worship hall with 300 chairs

  • Conference room

  • Men’s and women’s restrooms

  • Kitchen for small meals and serving

  • Storage for outreach and maintenance supplies

  • Asphalt parking for 40 cars including handicap spaces

  • Musical equipment and staging for worship hall and events

Total Estimated Project Cost: $1.2 million

WHY THIS MATTERS

We don’t offer handouts. We offer Hand Up. This multi-purpose bldg./worship hall/event hall project will provide the spiritual center our residents need to stay focused, faithful, and free. It will also free up space currently overcrowded by combining worship, support services, and office needs under one roof.

Every dollar raised goes directly to:

  • Housing stability for the formerly incarcerated

  • Reduction of homelessness and recidivism

  • Counseling and employment support

  • Faith-centered rehabilitation

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We invite you to be a foundational partner in this effort. Your support will directly fund the construction of a space that changes lives. No gift is too small. Every prayer, every dollar, every act of generosity helps us lay one more brick.

Ways to Support:

  • Make a tax-deductible donation

  • Sponsor a specific part of the project (e.g., kitchen, worship hall seats, office)

  • Connect us with potential donors or construction partners

  • Share our campaign on social media

Dear Sponsor

I am writing on behalf of Hand Up Ministries, Inc., a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Oklahoma City dedicated to helping men and women transition from incarceration to independence. We currently serve over 400 residents across two campuses, providing housing, job readiness, counseling, and weekly chapel services.

• Offices where staff and residents work side by side

• Counseling and meeting rooms to support reentry success

• A central hub for housing, transportation, and employment services

The project’s Core Build Now budget is $1.2 M, and we are seeking local partners who want to make a lasting impact on reducing homelessness and recidivism in Oklahoma City.

As a Corporate Sponsor, [Company Name] will receive recognition through:

• Prominent display of your logo and name on donor walls and project materials

• Acknowledgment in press releases, newsletters, and social media

• Opportunities for employee volunteer engagement

• An invitation to our dedication ceremony upon project completion

Your sponsorship will directly help us transform lives by giving men and women a second chance through housing, employment, and faith.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss sponsorship levels with you — from project naming opportunities to specific room or equipment sponsorships.

Thank you for considering this partnership. Together, we can provide hope, opportunity, and lasting change for those who need it most.

With gratitude,

David Nichols
